Dr. Rishi Bhargava, MD, FACC, is one of the newest members to the Heart Care team here in Oshawa. He joined in the Summer of 2019 after living in the dry heat of Arizona for six years. There he completed his Internal Medicine training at the University of Arizona followed by a Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at the prestigious and well-renown Sarver Heart Center. There he became triple board certified in Cardiovascular Disease, Internal Medicine and Echocardiography.
Since departing for medical school in 2009 he always wanted to take his foreign training back to his birth city, Oshawa. Dr. Bhargava mentions that it has always been his dream to return home. He is excited to help take care of the people that helped him growing up here in the Durham region. In fact, one of his first patients was the physician who delivered him at birth here at Lakeridge Health Oshawa! You can read the story that was published in the local newspaper by clicking here.
He is also proud to work along side with his father, our Founder & Director of Heart Care, Dr. Rakesh Bhargava. Some say working with your family can be difficult or nearly impossible. With a huge smile on his face, he says, “Actually, it is very easy — as long as he stays on his side of the office!”
He loves all-things-cardiology, but he has specific interests in advanced heart failure, critical care, arrhythmias, geriatric cardiology, echocardiography, coronary CT angiography, nuclear cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation.
He currently holds two offices. His primary clinic is here at Heart Care in Oshawa and the other, at our brother location at IMCare in Cobourg.
He works as a Medical ICU Intensivist at Northumberland Hospital and provides as needed Cardiology support at Lakeridge Health and Scarborough Health Network.
Dr. Rishi Bhargava is one of the only cardiologists providing Critical Care and inpatient cardiologist east of Toronto.
Dr. Bhargava is also an Associate (Adjunct) Professor at Queen’s University and is a Diplomate with the American Society of Echocardiography. He is certified in cardiac CT and nuclear cardiology.
Now that he has returned home after 6 years in the boiling desert, he enjoys spending his spare time keeping warm, catching up with long-time friends, cooking, and playing the saxophone.
Heart Care is proud to welcome Dr. Rishi Bhargava home!
